Healthy hair is a factor in having a well-groomed, lively and youthful appearance. Various reasons such as stress, hormonal irregularities, wrong product use, eating habits can cause hair loss.
Hair loss can cause loss of self-confidence by affecting the quality of life of the person in terms of psychological and aesthetic appearance.
Every hair strand has a life cycle. Hair is shed at certain intervals throughout life, but it grows back after the resting phase. The life cycle of each hair follicle consists of 3 periods. These are the anagen (growth phase), catagen (regression phase) and telogen (resting phase) cycles. These phases continue sequentially throughout life.
Anagen Growth Phase
It is the elongation phase of the hair strand. This process continues for 2 to 8 years in people who do not have spillage problems. About 85% of hair is in the anagen growth phase. Hair grows an average of 1 cm per month.
Catagen Regression Phase
During this period, hair production in the hair follicle stops and the hair that has grown in the anagen phase is separated from the dermal papilla cell root and brings it closer to the shedding phase. This period lasts 1-2 weeks.
Telogen Shedding Phase
In the catagen phase, the hair strands that are close to shedding are broken off and shed. This process takes an average of 2 to 4 months. As a result of this process, the dermal papilla cell approaches the surface of the scalp instead of the broken hair, and a new hair strand is formed and enters its cycle in the anagen phase. Not every hair goes through these cycles at the same time. For this reason, spills are sometimes intense and sometimes not at all.
The duration of these 3 phases can be affected by factors such as nutritional disorders, extreme and constant stress situations, hormonal changes, products that are not suitable for the scalp and may shorten the process of the anagen phase. Hair with a normal life cycle grows an average of 1 cm per month and grows continuously for 2-6 years. For 2 to 4 weeks, growth stops and it enters the telogen phase.
It is normal to lose an average of 50-100 hair strands per day.
DHT hormone plays a very important role in the transition to puberty in men. Hairs on the body and beard begin to grow under the influence of the hormone DHT. In the later period of life, the same DHT hormone can shorten the life of the hair strands by enabling the hair follicles to enter the telogen phase as soon as possible.
